Everything You Need to Know About Argan Oil

Argan oil is all the rave these days, even years, but why? Is it truly a miracle oil like they claim?

We’re glad you asked, because we are huge fans of Argan oil and its beauty benefits! Let’s explore the origins or argan oil, and then breakdown the oil’s benefits for your skin and hair. Because yes, argan oil is fantastic for your coils and curls, but it’s also great for your skin, scalp and nails. Let’s take a closer look at argan oil and all of its enriching health benefits.

Argan Oil Origins

Argan oil (pronounced Arkhan) is a native to the south west region of Morocco and was once praised as a magic potion. The oil itself comes from the kernel of the fruit which grows on the Argan tree. This oil was discovered over 4,000 years ago, as far as we know. The first documentation we have of Argan oil is from an Andalusian doctor who wrote about its health and beauty benefits in 1219. The Amazigh women, also known as Berber women, of Morocco used the oil to protect their skin from the harsh desert conditions of their climate and quickly grew devoted to this traditional oil of their land.

The tree which bears the fruit where the argan oil is extracted from, grows at an elevation of 4,900 feet high. They live for up to 200 years in rare and unique conditions where no other plants grow, except maybe at the feet and shade of this tree. The tree itself was used for centuries for its unique and strong wood, but in 1999 UNESCO intervened to protect the trees, which seemed to be rapidly disappearing and severely impacting its surrounding ecosystem.

Before we get into the ways you can use argan oil for your skin and hair, let’s explore the properties which make up argan oil.
