How to Keep Your Beard Fresh and Soft this Summer

There’s no denying it, summer has arrived. And as the heat and humidity rise, so will your beard care maintenance routine.

If you’re wondering if you should shave off your beard because the summer heat has arrived, the answer is no. No you do not have to shave off your beard. Yes you can keep your beard and beard hair growing this summer. Just like the hair on your head doesn’t exponentially increase your body temperature, the hair on your face won’t either. And believe it or not, some even claim their beard keeps them cool in the summer heat.

So if you plan on keeping your beard this summer and want it soft and clean, here are some of our tips for an awesome summer beard.

Make Your Beard Cleanser Your Priority

Cleansing your skin and beard hair is going to be of utmost importance this summer. Besides for all the sweat and debris that can get caught on your skin and beard hair, who knows what else you’ll be exposing your beard hair to this summer with all those added outdoor activities? A natural beard and face cleanser will not only remove bacteria and dirt, but will also soothe, purify and stimulate your hair follicles and skin. Keeping your beard clean is key to new growth and a healthy looking beard.

Moisturize and Oil

After a good cleanse, you’ll want to moisturize and oil your beard hair so that it remains soft and encourages new growth down the line. If you don’t stay true to your moisturizing and oil routine, your beard may become extremely dry and itchy during the summer months, and nobody wants that. Opt for a beard and face moisturizer that contains nutritious oils like argan oil, coconut oil, and olive oil, but most importantly contains water as one of the first ingredients. It may sound surprising, but water is essential for moisturizing that beard (and skin and hair).

Once you moisturize that beard, use a beard oil to seal in the moisture so that the beard is soft throughout the day. It’s best to moisturize and oil your beard 2-3 times per week, to ensure it stays soft and you avoid unnecessary breakage.

If you feel your beard is exceptionally dry and itchy, then we recommend using a non-greasy beard butter to really nourish and soften that beard hair and the skin beneath the beard. It’s also great for styling your beard after you’ve showered.

It’s time to brush up

If you don’t have a beard comb yet, it’s time you get yourself one, and pronto. You’ll want to pick up a beard comb that is designed for beards and one that doesn't pull or break your beard hair. Brushing your beard daily is an essential ingredient for maintaining a healthy beard. Combing your beard will help detangle the hairs, reduce fluffiness, and will encourage the removal of dirt and debris that gets caught in the hair from the surrounding environment.

Final thoughts on summer beards

Just because it’s summer, doesn’t mean you can’t grow your beard out long. In order for your beard to grow in healthy and soft this summer, maintenance is key. Skipping out on your cleanser and moisturizers won’t be worth it during the summer months. The idea here is to keep it clean and keep it moisturized. Once you’ve got your beard routine down pat, then you can start focusing on other things. If you’re serious about your beard, then so are we!
