The Best Moisturizing Routine for Softer Smoother Skin - Koils by Nature

Your skin has to deal with a whole lot, from environmental toxins to our daily stresses and anxieties.

Some of us are born with naturally smooth and youthful skin that lasts a lifetime. But then there’s the rest of us who need to look after our skin, keep it clean, clear and smooth throughout the week. Our skin care routine will in fact have a stronger impact on our skin than our genetics. And we all need to take care of our skin from the inside out (and the outside in.)

In this article we’ll explore how to keep that skin soft and smooth. Because even if you do in fact have incredibly smooth skin, you’ll want to make sure to protect your skin from damage down the line.

Continuously improve your diet

Eating well will not only affect your skin, but will also make a huge difference in your hair, digestion, mental and emotional health. Yes, it’s just that important. Forget about eating processed foods, foods high in sodium, processed foods with sugar and other gut damaging ingredients. When your gut isn't happy, and all the good bacteria has been broken down by junk food, the inflammation and breakouts will reveal itself, yes, on your face.

Eating a balanced diet, with lots of fruits, vegetables, seeds and nuts will make a huge impact on your skin health. Replace a sugary milk chocolate, or sweet desert with a dark chocolate bar with nuts. Go for fruit when you are craving a sweet snack and opt for greener meals which supply you with the nutrition you need to look and feel good. It really is worth it!

Drink more water

We love this one. Why? Because it’s so easy, it’s cheap and so, so important. Drink more water. Even if you already feel like you drink a lot of water, drink more of it!

Staying hydrated will not only improve your digestion, but it will keep your skin and hair hydrated from the inside out. And we’re not just talking about your face here, but your whole body. If the water where you live is safe to drink, then drink up! You can add a squeeze of lemon to your water, mint leaves, cucumbers, or bubbles to add a little excitement to your hourly beverage. And if you’re not sure about the water running through your tap, we strongly recommend getting a filter, and filtering that water.

And don’t forget, coffee and caffeinated drinks and teas are a diuretic, which means they will further dehydrate you. We would never tell you to stop drinking coffee, but we do recommend upping your water intake and decreasing those refills.

Get sufficient amount of sleep

Who doesn’t love sleep? Besides for finally unwinding from the day, sleep repairs the body from the daily stress and helps you recover from the day’s demands. Not getting the right amount of sleep can certainly lead to signs of premature aging. Your body needs around 7 to 8 hours of sleep to rest and recover from the weight of the day. They don’t call it beauty sleep for nothing!

Get your sweat on

Could you believe that sweating is actually great for the skin? When you work out and increase your heart rate, the blood is circulating through the body and cleaning out the toxins from your system, including the skin on your face. Not to mention sweating pumps out the dirt and debris clogging those pores, for cleaner skin that will glow after that workout!

Moisturize the right way

When choosing the right moisturizer, you need to choose one based on your skin type. We strongly recommend using natural moisturizers to keep your body and face clean of added and unnecessary chemicals.

The best time to moisturize is after the shower when the body is still damp. We recommend moisturizing the entire body twice a day, especially during those colder winter months, which dry out and cause the skin to crack.

It just so happens to be, we know a fabulous hair and body butter which utilizes nourishing ingredients like coconut oil, shea butter and a whole lot of other delicious oils and butters great for your skin and health.

Protect yourself from sun damage

You’ve heard it once and you’ll hear it again.

We know how tempting it is to soak in that sun, but it’s really not worth it. Okay, you think it is, but it causes way more damage down the line than you may have bargained for. We recommend covering up with a hat and thin fabric to protect your skin from sun damage.

And that just about sums up some of our favorite tips for keeping that skin smooth, soft and youthful for many years down the line!
